Jo Smyth is a BAFTA winning writer / director based in London. Her short film Smile (BAFTA Cymru Award winning short) has garnered wide praise for its unflinching look at sexual assault and how the systems protect the perpetrator and vilify the victim.
Jo writes / directs female lead stories that explore challenging and often underrepresented subjects. Her last short, Find You Here is a horror film about coercive control in a same sex relationship. It screened at over twenty festivals worldwide including Bolton International, Crystal Palace, Grimmfest, Unrestricted View, and Dead Northern.
Whilst directing, Jo is an editor for television drama, credits include The Man Who Fell to Earth, A Thousand Blows and Mobland for Paramount+.
Jo is currently in development on her first feature, a feminist folk horror about the menopause called Trees.
